Allotments in Swindon are safe – and under Labour, they’ll thrive.
The Labour Group loves allotments and is totally committed to them because we know the benefits they bring to health, community, and sustainability. That’s why we’ve guaranteed no net loss of allotment space and pledged to increase provision when new homes are built.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives are desperately trying to whip up fear with baseless claims that allotments are under threat. Let’s be clear: there are no plans, no papers, and no secret plots to sell allotments – and there haven’t been for years. In fact, the last time allotments were sold in Swindon was 14 years ago under a Conservative administration. We are in talks with the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton about a new access road through an existing allotment, but we will stick to the pledge of replacing any plots affected, should the plan go ahead.
Allotments are mainly run by our parish councils and remain a much-loved resource that will be around for generations. So ignore the Tory scaremongering – Labour is protecting and growing Swindon’s allotments, not cutting them.
Conservatives want headlines. We want healthy communities. That’s the difference.
